MQ 2011 No.14

I climbed Gap Mountain in Troy, NH today, in the fog and rain.
Here are a couple of macro-setting pictures I took:
What can I say? I am a man of whimsy :Þ

Out of the Blue Experiment

I was doodling yesterday next to my computer, and randomly started drawing feathery scribbles.

I always wonder where such 'out of the ether' ideas come from, and whether I might ever use them in bigger projects. Regardless, I enjoyed the exercise nevertheless, which is usually the point.

And of course I had to play with the 'macro' setting again!

1st Blizzard

I had no power or heat all night but I was still able to do some reading!

Binney Pond State Park

I climbed Pratt Mountain and Stony Top on the Wapack Trail today. I had more fun with the 'macro' setting on my digital camera:

I climbed Mount Grace, the 3rd-tallest peak in Massachusetts, on Tuesday 09/27/11. Here are a few photos:

Household Close-Up

My frying pan's handle.
I was struck by the way the sun hit the stove through the window, and I've always been a fan of the pattern of bumps on the pan's grip.

Mushrooms

I hiked the Ball Hill Trail in Leominster State Forest today. Lots of mushrooms around.

Resupply

I just hit both Ocean State Job Lot and Michael's to restock with blank canvases, new brushes and acrylics. Fall is going to be paint-tastic!

Make it Happen 2

I be paintin', yo!

"Birches 2" is on the easel (I'm just waiting for the orange paint to dry). I may not finish today, as I am going to be in Cambridge, MA with several friends at Abbie Barrett's show at TOAD.

Here is the first stage:

Make it Happen

By posting this at noon, I am forcing myself to create something today, in order to avoid public embarrassment for non-productivity! Work to follow...

It's 6:45 pm and this is what I accomplished today - "Birches 1":
I plan on using my other canvas of the same size to do another, with a background other than the custom yellow seen here, before the weekend is over.

Wyman's Pond Music Fest II

I painted a couple of 'quick & easy' signs for the music festival I produce every July. I used acrylic on some old slate roof tiles reclaimed from my parents' house. I waited until the last minute, so they are a bit sloppy and not well thought out, but here you go:

Slow But Steady

Because I've been working a lot lately I've been too tired to do more than scribble. However, I did have time to practice some of Iceman's power effects on a Sentinel. The oddities are from the fact that I had to blank out a 'to do' list that was on the same piece of paper!

Work on the main drawing is about halfway through the pencils, and I hope to do more on whatever days I happen to have off this week...

Lull

Well okay, maybe not a big lull in the artwork production, but I did stall for a few days. I did a couple of rough sketches (a reclining woman, and a muscle-bound horned monster) over the weekend in between bouts of ennui, and then this morning I started work on an 18" x 24" group shot. So far fellow 'X-Men' Iceman and Cyclops are in it. They should be battling a Sentinel, but we shall see...

Colored with my Italian dual-point brush pens.
It's definitely time to begin utilizing computer coloring...

Swap Challenge X

Brian is apparently in another world when it comes to the Swap Challenge. He submitted work for Week 1 and that's the last I've seen of his art!

Here are early stages of my 5-piece "X-Men vs The Sentinels" (this one features Colossus):
Pencils

Part way through the inking stage.
